Flower Arranging

On Saturday I had the fun of attending an Open House here in town at Niepagan Greenhouses.  Their guest for the class I attended was Diane Nolan from the University of Illinois.  She has been a horticulture professor there for over 31 years!  She is also the host of the WILL Illinois Gardener program on PBS, which you can see on Thursdays at 7 pm and Saturdays at 11:00 am.  She did a fun flower arrangement to music.  Watch!

Some of the flowers she used were freesia, ming fern, zinnia, bells of ireland, seeded yew and lemon leaf.  Diane recommended that when arranging flowers to be sure to clean the stems so that the leaves do not pollute the water.  Here is a photo of her finished bouquet.

Even though the weather did not cooperate, rain and 50 degrees, it was sure nice to hang out in the garden center with other die-hard gardeners!
