Cleaning---------ugh!

I think I have been fairly honest with all of you that cleaning is like a four letter word to me.  Absolutely hate it.  Have I been too strong?  NO!  Just ask my family!!

Anyway, I am on a quest to find the best cleaning supplies out there.  I believe that one of the reasons I hate it is because I just don't have the right tools and products to make it go quickly and efficiently.  This is where you come in!

I would so LOVE if all of you lovely ladies would leave me a comment and let me know:

  1. Your favorite cleaning product-bleach, Mr.Clean, 409?????
  2. Your favorite cleaning tools
  3. Any tips and hints you have found that make cleaning easier
  4. Mopping haunts me!  Any help you can give would surely be appreciated! I have a steam cleaner and I still can't get the floor clean!
I know for sure that some of you out there are  lean-mean-cleaning machines, and I need your expertise!  Don't let me down!  I need lots of comments before I go shopping for all the lovely suggestions you are going to make that will make my life easier!!!

  1. I love the Norwex clothes to clean, especially the glass cleaner. I also really love my steam mop. For laundry I have Legacy of Clean and can't go back to anything else.

  2. Hi! Just stopping by to thank you for your free photos... I have used the 2 bible ones, and linked them to your site here. Thank you!!

Cleaning... well, I did have my own cleaning business (still do, but don't do alot of it anymore)... we mainly did rental move-outs, and they can be absolutely disgusting. I mean health-hazard disgusting. Do you want to know what product I would never leave home without? It is my best friend, when I go to clean any house. Ready for it???!!! lol

Gumption. I'm an Australian, so I don't know what you call it over in the States, but it is a white paste and it works so well for anything. Except glass, don't use it on glass :P

It removes stubborn marks off walls, bathtubs, benchtops etc, in such a quick time, compared to drawn out scrubbing.

Give it a try, if you haven't already!

    Bless you!!

  3. I am not a great cleaning person, but here is my best tip for floors:

We don't wear our shoes around inside the house. In tons of other countries, it is just a given to take your shoes off just inside the door. It's amazing what a HUGE difference it makes in keeping the floor clean.

In other cultures, it's expected that you take off your shoes when you enter someone else's house. We don't take it that far, feeling like it would be rude to ask that of people in our culture. Still with our family not tracking dirt all over the house, keeping the floors clean is TONS easier!

  5. I love microfiber cloths for cleaning. Like, Michelle I do like norwex, although I only have a couple. Their glass cleaning cloth is the best thing ever!! I only use water and get clean, streak free glass. I never use anything toxic - bleach, lysol etc. I use vinegar and water, baking soda and Melaleuca cleaners. They all clean great and aren't harmful to my family.

In order to save time, I keep a little basket in each bathroom with all the cleaning supplies I need. No more running around from room to room gathering supplies.

No tips on mopping. I hate it too!!

  7. Cleaning products: vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, lemon juice, baking soda, Murphy's oil soap

Cleaning tools: rubber gloves!, old t-shirts & socks, toothbrush, elbow grease!

Cleaning routine: I'm in the process of revamping mine as C is old enough to start doing more. But as a general rule, I try to devote four hours in one day to "really" clean, the about 30 minutes a day the rest of the days to maintain.

Wish I was close enough to come over and help you look at your schedule to figure out how to "fit it all in"!

  8. I love ammonia for my stove (although it smells horrid.) I never could get the grates for our gas range clean until I learned to just put them in a closed bucket or other large storage container, pour in 1/4 - 1/2 cup ammonia, seal it tight, and leave it for 5 or 6 hours. The black burned on crud wipes right off!

You can do the same thing in your oven - just put a dish of ammonia in there overnight and a lot of the burned-on stuff in your oven will wipe out the next morning.

Speaking of ovens, if something bubbles over, pour some table salt on it while your oven is still hot, and then scrub it out later (before you use the oven again, of course!)

To clean your microwave, put in a mug of water with about 1 Tbsp of lemon juice in it; microwave it for 5 minutes on high and wipe it out. Easy peasy, and smells great! :)
