The Blizzard of 2011 - Yep, We Knew It Was Coming

Yep, we knew it was coming.  The forecasters had been talking for days about just how much snow we could expect.  They started their guess work at 20 inches.  Seriously?  The weather models all showed us right smack dab in the middle of it.  Lovely. I mean, Yippee!

So before the big stuff got here, me and my beautiful McKinley (she just loves the car) took off for the grocery store, along with everyone else in our twin cities.  Let's just say Aldi had a very good business day on Monday!

Today, we are on our third day of no school.  It is very difficult to tell how much snow we actually got because the wind has been so bad.  But here is what our neighborhood looks like.

Oh how I long to sit on that swing again, when the green grass grows and the sun shines bright.

There is a street out there somewhere, but evidently the city plows couldn't find it either!

It seems my 10 year old has fallen into a snow trap.  Only her head is left!

Oh the simple bliss of snow days and no school.  Remember that joy?

Our back gate.  Couldn't even get the dog out there for the first half of the day!

I've been so very thankful that our power has remained on the entire storm.  We live in a historic neighborhood, which means all of our power lines are above ground and hanging over the street.  Power outages are frequent.  Thankfully most of the ice part of this storm missed us. The forecast for the next several days?  Negative numbers.  Oh joy.

How about you?  Are you snowed in?

For those of you who live in warm climates and are enjoying sunshine and any temperatures above 30 degrees, please don't tell me about it.

I just can't take it!

I'm writing over at Seeds of Faith today.  Come join me!

  3. We got a lot of snow too, and I gave my kids a snow day yesterday. The schools are still closed today, but we are doing school today because as home schoolers we really have no excuse!

  4. goodness - believe it or not, but I grew up in NY for 12 years and had to help my mom shovel the driveway at 11pm because my day came home at midnight (he worked the night shift). I don't miss shoveling snow!!

Wish you were here in sunny FL with me!
