Skimpy Fashion for Preteens - UGH!

I took my 11 year old shopping yesterday to find shorts to match our unusually warm weather for March.  We headed to our usual favorite place, Kohls, 'cause hey - I had a 30% off coupon!

We headed to the Juniors section, and as we walked I gave K the usual talk about nothing too short, we want to be modest, etc.  You guys know the talk, don't ya?

Well, we were met with rack after rack of short shorts, tank tops, camis and see through blouses and t-shirts.

*sigh*

Why does the fashion industry want to dress our pre-teen girls like prostitutes?  Seriously.  I just don't understand the mentality that goes into the design of these clothes.

Is anyone else with me?  Do you know of any specific store chains that are known for their fashionable yet modest clothing for preteens?  Forget the coupon, I just want some shorts that cover her behind!!

  1. It is frustrating. I found some at Kohl's online that are bermudas. At other stores I always have to look for bermudas in order to cover her upper thigh- ugh! I have found some in previous years at Lands End that weren't too short.

  2. I have the same trouble and my daughter is only four! I think I am going to have to wind up making her clothes.

Have you tried online? I know I've seen a few places that sell modest children's clothing.

  3. YES so agree, bring on the conservative styles they are little girls. I am really not liking most of the new styles.

  4. The Middle School dress code for G requires shorts to be as long as your fingertips when your arm is fully extended. We had a tough time finding anything in the stores that met that requirement. I wish they didn't sexualize our girls so early.

  6. Have you tried Old Navy? They have a lot of options that are kind of middle road between super short and bermuda that are nice. The nice thing is that if you shop online, they have the inseam length next to the shorts so you can tell what you're getting yourself into :)
