No More Niche! I'm Doing My Own Thing!!

I'll be honest...I'm usually a rule follower.  I don't rock the boat and I don't like conflict.  I'll do anything to avoid conflict!

So I found myself in a different frame of mind this weekend when I decided to buck the system.  That's right....I've decided to go against the experts and do my own thing.  *gasp*

The blogging experts have long stated that a blogger should find her niche, her one area of expertise to write about, and stick with it.  They suggest a narrow focus on one subject matter makes for a more successful blog.

I don't like it.  No thanks.

I've discovered that trying to keep a narrow focus feels binding, suffocating, and limited.  I'm not a one dimensional person and I have lots of hobbies and interests that I love and that I love to share with you.  For the last year I have been trying to keep up with three, yes 3, different blogs.  I wrote here anything inspirational, spiritual, and bible study related, with a little family mixed in.

I also wrote at another blog called Garden Sweet Garden, where I wrote the chronicles of everything plant related, because in the summer time, that is where I live....in the garden.

Then you all know that I love photography, so I was also sporadically posting photos at my blog Capturing Beautiful.

This weekend I consolidated all of those posts and imported them here, to Heart and Soul Reflections.  It felt so good!  Now you'll find a variety of posts that reflect my personality and lifestyle.  No, it's not what the experts recommend, but oh well.  It just feels right.

I'm really excited to be able to open up the possibilities here and share with you ALL of me, not just bits and pieces.  I'm sure you'll notice an immediate change if you've been a follower around here for long!

I hope you'll enjoy this new format and all the news things that you will find here at Heart and Soul Reflections!!

  1. I kind of did the same thing at my blog! I made all three (family, book reviews, devotional) with the same layout and so when you go from one to the other, it is like you are in the same place. I like to be able to blog about whatever I want to as well! great post. AGREE!

  3. I think you're awesome! A great idea and I can't wait to see the multiple sides of who you are. I can't imagine doing three blogs and I have to think this will simplify your blogging time tremendously. Two thumbs up!

  6. Hi Cheri~ I'm SO with you on this. Though I never posted it, I made the same decision a long time ago because I've never had only one focus in my life! Glad I've got company.

    Blessings on your creative endeavors!

  7. I am finding that only God is the expert. We have to take in what others say and sift it through the Holy Spirit to see if and how it applies to us. So glad that you are more at peace with what you are doing -- praying that blessings would be abundant through this space.

  8. I think it's a great move, Cherie! It sounds like you're just letting all of who God made you to be show in your online space here, and I love that!

  9. Cherie,

I LOVE that you've done this. How wonderful to have all your passion in one place! BRAVO for breaking the rules and doing what your heart needs. (I'm working on that particular skill myself.) I can't wait to see how God uses this in your life! Way to go, sister!!
