One Beautiful Thing - A Walk Through The Garden

For the first time this gardening season, yesterday I spent most of the day in the garden.  It is my refuge and brings me deep joy and satisfaction. It's one of those things that God planted deep within me!  I moved several things that needed a new location, did some weeding, and of course, just sat and enjoyed the sites and sounds that the garden brings.  I have a beautiful little house wren that sings to me all afternoon while I am working.

I am surrounded by beauty in my own backyard.

Walk Through The Garden

I love Thursday mornings, as gardeners around the country gather on twitter under the hashtag #gardenwalk to show photos of what is happening in their gardens.  It always intrigues me of the many different things blooming in different weather zones.  For instance, my friend Chris in Alabama has roses in full bloom and glory.  While mine are looking like this, making me wait patiently for the show!

While I'm waiting on the roses, a few other things have shone their faces to the sun, so walk with me through the garden!

One of my spring time favorites, Bachelor Buttons (Centaurea montana), always makes a stunning show in the garden.  The bud is one of my favorites, with it's intricate design of diamonds.

This little jewel, Blue Flax (Linum perenne), was added to my garden last year, but didn't have time to bloom.  I am thrilled that it is loaded in blooms.

These iris were a gift from my mother-in-law a few years ago and I have no idea what name they might have, other than gorgeous!

I've chosen purple and lime green for my planting box next to the front steps this year.  I love the striped verbena with the purple petunias.

Every summer one of the first hanging baskets that I seek out is the Fuchsia.  This year I bought two different kinds because they were both so gorgeous!  I'm not sure of the top variety, but the bottom is Indian Maid. I try my best to not kill them before the end of June!  They require close to a gallon of water a day if they are in high bloom!!

Lastly, this beautiful little jewel, a columbine, of which I have no idea what variety!  I have had them pop up around my yard in various places in which I did not originally plant them!  I just wish they lasted longer!! So delicate.

I love walking through the garden every day to see what is different.  Those blooms open so quickly sometimes!

A Walk Through The Garden

Tuesday brought one of my favorite days of the entire year....shopping at the garden center!  Oh how my soul leaps for joy when I walk into that huge greenhouse and see beautiful blooms everywhere I look.  What a treat for the eyes and heart after a long winter.

Tables and tables of geraniums, impatients, petunias, snapdragons, dahlias, oh my!  My heart just goes all aflutter looking at the beauty hanging from the ceiling!!

Of course, I couldn't walk out of there with nothing....no true gardener could, I don't think!

I brought home just a few goodies to put in a container on the patio.  I am looking forward to a red, orange and yellow theme this year.

This isn't in that color scheme I just mentioned, is it?  Well could you pass these up?  A verbena color I hadn't seen before, "Lanai Twister Pink".  I'll just have to bite the bullet and find somewhere to put them!

Last year I had one of these adorable Rock Foil, but it didn't make it through the winter, so I had to replace it.

 
Isn't that adorable?  A perfect addition to the rock garden.  So delicate, I love it.

And of course, I couldn't walk out of there without a couple of hanging baskets!  This one will most likely be sitting up by the patio in this big repurposed keg!  I usually take the hanger off and then it just looks like a beautiful potted plant without all the work!

Then in my shade garden I thought I could use some color back there amongst all the hosta, so I went with a bright red double impatient!

So there you have it!  A quick walk through what's happening in the gardens around here.

My View in the Garden

After months of waiting, 3 yards of mulch was finally delivered to my gardens yesterday.  Unbelievably, only about a half yard remains!  The family really helped out yesterday.  The gardens are looking fantastic!

The Rock Garden

The sun has been out for two WHOLE DAYS!!!  You better believe I've been outside for all of it.  I still have mulch to spread, and I love every minute of it.

Walk Thru the Garden Wednesday

I have been very busy in my garden over the last week.  The rain has finally subsided a bit and I am able to get out daily to work, even if for just a little while.  I thought I'd give you a quick tour of all that I have been doing, including some plants I received for Mother's Day!




The cute little pink one that I identified is actually Rockfoil not Rock Crest. I'm loving the fast progress in the garden right now.  The blooms will be coming on soon!
