Praying for My Children and a Giveaway

I've felt very convicted lately that I need to be praying more passionately for my children.  I've been reminded by several blogs and articles I have read that witness to the power of prayer for our kids, not just in the "here and now", but years of praying for their education, God's will for their life, Godly, lifelong friendships, and their future spouses.  Prayers that shape who they are, their character and their relationship with their Savior.  It is a mighty task, one that I MUST tackle.

I love the Power of Praying series by Stormie Omartian.  The one that I am pouring through right now is the Power of a Praying Parent Book of Prayers.  It has many prayers by category for such things like Staying Attracted to Purity, Instilling the Desire to Learn, Following Truth and Rejecting Lies, Being the Person God Created.  It has so many wonderful topics to pray for our children.  I just love this little book.  And it is a perfect size to just throw in your purse and be able to pull out at a stoplight or while waiting for kids at the bus stop!

I am also in the middle of the book, Every Child Needs a Praying Mom, by Fern Nichols, the Founder of Moms In Touch, International.  I can't seem to read this book fast enough!

She has just fabulous insights on prayer, and I love how she breaks down great ways to pray through the ACTS formula, giving very practical and easy ideas on how to implement Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Supplication.

It was very challenging to read the following: "How often are you coming into God's presence? The privilege, the power, the authority is yours. God wants you to take your children into the Holy of Holies. Are you taking your children in, claiming the Word of God for them? Are you taking in your husband.....your mother....your unsaved friends...?"  WOW!

You'll be seeing more about praying for your children here, as I continue to do better at this myself.  I hope it will help keep me accountable.  Would you like to join me?

I'd like to give away a copy of The Power of a Praying Parent by Stormie Omartian.  To enter, leave me a comment and let me know what your favorite resource is for praying for your children.  I'll choose a winner on Monday, February 22nd.

I'm linking to A Life in Need of Change today.  She has commited to pray for her children every day this entire year.  Go check out how she is praying.

  3. What a blessing that kids have short memories for when they are angry at us. The next morning when they wake up, they forgive and forget. If only we as parents did just as well at giving our loved ones a fresh start each day - looking for the best in what our loved ones say and do and not always looking for some nefarious slight.

  4. A mother can do nothing more loving than praying for her children. I don't feel comfortable sending them out into the world until they are covered in prayer. I know my parents prayers saved me from many dangerous and very bad situations. Miracles defined many of my days growing up. I'm so thankful for their prayers. There are so many things that I pray for my children as you mentioned so I keep a Prayer Journal and that keeps my requests in front of me and also helps me to stay on track when my mind is wanting to wander to my to-do list. Thanks for such a great article, Cherie!
