More DIY Projects in My Kitchen

Do you ever have a spot in your home that just drives you crazy?  Me. too!!

Enter the corner of my kitchen counter.  My husband is a TV fanatic.  Yes, that means we have one in almost every room {except my bedroom, which I won't allow...don't get me started!}Anyhoo...the corner the TV sits on always drives me nuts because it is messy and blah.

So I thought a trip to the Habitat for Humanity Restore was in order to see if I could come up with a solution.  This is what I came home with:

The dark wood on the left, no one seemed to even know what they were!  So I brought home two of them really cheap because of their unknown use!

The crate came from the thrift store, and is a wine crate.  I removed the dowel rods with a jigsaw and then covered the bottom in felt so it doesn't scratch the counter.

I was lucky enough to have some red paint left over from some other areas of the kitchen.  So three coats of paint went on the inside and outside of the box.  I then spray painted a cheap copper handle black to add to the front.
I was super excited with the result, because this will be where we store all our bread and baked goods.  Since we have an old house, cupboards in the kitchen are at a minimum for that kind of stuff!

So I forgot to take pictures of the building part, but I sawed one of the wooden pieces in half with the circular saw, and then used them to create the sides.

I am so pleased with how it turned out!

What have you been building?

  1. Oh, it turned out adorable! I love the way the red turned out! I've been hunting a few things in our thrift stores lately with no luck--thanks for the reminder to try our nearby ReStore. It's not as close, but it's not too far either!
